The Gift of Time: Welcoming 15 New Volunteers to The Denver Hospice
Today, The Denver Hospice is welcoming 15 new volunteers who are spending the day in training and preparing to begin an important role in our organization.
These new volunteers are joining a community of people who understand that hospice care is about much more than managing symptoms. It is about helping patients live as fully and comfortably as possible, supporting families and honoring each person’s unique journey.
And volunteers are an essential part of making that possible.
The importance of hospice volunteers
Hospice volunteers give something that is both simple and incredibly valuable: their time.
They may sit with a patient and provide companionship. They may listen to stories, read together, play music, help with a practical task or offer respite to a family caregiver. Sometimes, their most important contribution is simply being present.
That presence can make a profound difference.
For families, knowing that a caring volunteer is there can provide reassurance and a welcome sense of support. For patients, a volunteer can bring conversation, connection and companionship at a time when relationships and meaningful moments matter deeply.
More than a volunteer
Our volunteers are an important part of the broader hospice team. They complement the work of nurses, physicians, social workers, chaplains and other professionals by bringing their own experiences, talents and compassion to the people we serve.
Every volunteer brings something different. Some have professional skills they want to share. Others simply want to help. What they have in common is a willingness to show up for patients and families when they need support.
That commitment is invaluable.
Welcoming a new group of volunteers
Today’s training marks the beginning of a new chapter for 15 individuals who have chosen to make a difference through service.
We are grateful that they have chosen The Denver Hospice and look forward to seeing the impact they will have on patients, families and our community.
To our new volunteers: thank you for giving your time, your compassion and your presence.
Hospice is a team effort, and we are so grateful to have you on our team.
