At Home Foot Care: Important Foot and Health Care, Right at Home
For people who are homebound, getting to medical appointments can be challenging. Colorado Visiting Nurse Association (CVNA) offers At Home Foot Care to help make important foot and health services more accessible — right in the comfort of the patient’s home.
The service is available to Kaiser Permanente Medicare members who are homebound and have a physician referral for home foot care. Care is provided by a Medical Foot Nurse in the patient’s home.
What Does a Foot Exam Include?
During an At Home Foot Care visit, patients receive more than a routine foot check. Services include:
- Medication review
- A foot exam, including inspection for discoloration, swelling, redness, warmth, cuts, scrapes, corns, calluses and other changes to the foot, ankle and leg below the knee
- Screening for neuropathy, or nerve damage
- Blood pressure monitoring
- A circulation check by taking the foot, or “pedal,” pulse
- Assessment and monitoring of chronic conditions, including hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and arthritis
- Individual health coaching and education
Regular foot and health monitoring can be especially important for people living with chronic conditions or those who have difficulty leaving home for appointments.
