Camp Brave Heart Families Enjoy a Day of Healing and Adventure at the Zoo

Laughter echoed through the pathways of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo on July 9 as children and families participating in Camp Brave Heart gathered for a day filled with fun, connection, and healing.

The Day at the Zoo event gave families the opportunity to step away from the challenges of grief and simply enjoy being together. Children delighted in feeding giraffes, visiting their favorite animals, and sharing new experiences with other kids who understand what it's like to lose someone they love. Parents and caregivers also found comfort in connecting with others walking a similar path.

Camp Brave Heart is Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care's children's grief support program, offering compassionate resources and meaningful experiences that help children and families navigate life after loss. Events like the Day at the Zoo remind participants that healing can happen in many ways—including through play, friendship, laughter, and shared experiences.

We are grateful to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for helping create such a memorable day for our Camp Brave Heart families and for providing a welcoming space where children could simply be kids.

Thank you to everyone who helps make Camp Brave Heart possible. Together, we continue to create moments of hope, connection, and healing for children and families in our community.
