Today, The Denver Hospice welcomed a new class of volunteers during our latest volunteer training, marking the beginning of a journey that will touch the lives of countless patients and families.
Volunteers have always been an essential part of hospice care. In fact, hospice is one of the few areas of healthcare where volunteers are not simply appreciated—they are a fundamental part of the care model.
Every Volunteer Makes a Difference
When people think of hospice volunteers, they often imagine someone sitting beside a patient, holding a hand or sharing a conversation. While many volunteers do provide companionship, there are countless other ways they support our mission.

Volunteering is about more than donating hours. It's about offering presence, kindness, and human connection during some of life's most important moments.
For patients, a volunteer's visit can bring comfort, conversation, laughter, or simply the reassurance that someone cares. For families, volunteers can provide support and moments of relief during an emotionally challenging time.
Even volunteers who never meet a patient directly make an important impact. Administrative assistance, event support, and community outreach all strengthen our ability to serve more people with excellence and compassion.

Hospice care is built on teamwork. Physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, nursing assistants, therapists, bereavement specialists, and volunteers all work together to support patients and families with dignity, compassion, and respect.
