Patriotic Miniature Donkeys Bring Smiles to Pathways Ahead of the Fourth of July

Paco and Levi's visit created joyful moments for patients, families, and staff

The halls of the Pathways Inpatient Care Center were filled with smiles today as two familiar four-legged friends returned for a special holiday visit.

Paco and Levi, two lovable miniature donkeys, arrived dressed in festive red, white, and blue to help patients, families, and staff celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July. Their gentle personalities, curious nature, and patriotic outfits quickly brought laughter and joy to everyone they met.

While their visit may have seemed simple, moments like these have a lasting impact. Interactions with animals can provide comfort, reduce stress, encourage conversation, and create meaningful memories for individuals and families navigating serious illness. For caregivers and staff, they offer a welcome opportunity to pause, smile, and share in the experience.

At Pathways, we believe compassionate care extends beyond medical support. Creating opportunities for connection, celebration, and joy is an important part of caring for the whole person.

We are incredibly thankful to our community partner, Hearts & Horses, for making visits like this possible. Their dedication to bringing animal-assisted experiences into healthcare settings helps create unforgettable moments for the people we serve.

As Independence Day approaches, Paco and Levi reminded us that sometimes the best celebrations aren't the biggest ones—they're the quiet moments of kindness, companionship, and connection that brighten someone's day.

Thank you, Paco and Levi, for helping us celebrate the holiday and for sharing your patriotic spirit with everyone at Pathways. We can't wait to welcome you back again!
